Tibetan Art Treasure
Thangka, which means “pine tree” in Tibetan, is the most important carrier of Tibetan art. Tibetans generally believe in Buddhism, and the themes of thangka are usually related to Buddhism. In the thousands of years of circulation, thangka carries the Tibetans’ understanding of beauty, wisdom of energy, and exploration of mysticism.
In the interpretation of thangka, Tibet is divided into many factions, among which the Jonang School is an important one. The 17th-century Buddhist master Tāranātha painted many exquisite thangkas, and his unique style is still circulated in the border areas of Qinghai and Sichuan.
